Lead PPF Installer

Lead Paint Protection Film Installer

PPF Department | Virginia Beach, VA | Full-Time, On-Site

Compensation and scope are based on your experience and skill set — details are discussed during the interview process.

Role Overview

As the Lead PPF Installer at Simple Details, you are the production authority and craftsmanship standard for the Paint Protection Film department. You install the most complex and highest-value work in the bay while owning the quality, workflow, and development of the installers beneath you. This role demands the highest level of technical proficiency and an unwavering commitment to quality on every vehicle that comes through our facility. Your work, and the standard you hold the team to, is essential in maintaining Simple Details' reputation as a premier provider of automotive protection.

Core Responsibilities

Vehicle Preparation

  • Prepare vehicle surfaces meticulously, including cleaning and decontamination prior to installation — this step is owned entirely by the installer, without exception.
  • Perform a full pre-installation vehicle inspection and document any pre-existing paint defects before work begins.

Disassembly and Reassembly

  • Perform the minimal disassembly and reassembly required for proper film installation, including the removal of trim, moldings, and panels where necessary.
  • Handle all vehicle components with care proportional to their value. All removed parts must be staged safely, tracked, and reinstalled correctly.
  • Flag any component that cannot be safely removed or reinstalled without risk and escalate before proceeding.

Film Installation

  • Independently install paint protection film on standard and complex panels — full fronts, doors, rear quarters, and bumpers — with exceptional attention to edge finishing, coverage consistency, and contamination prevention.
  • Lead or assist in full-vehicle installations, ensuring a premium finish and strict adherence to quality standards.
  • Follow all company SOPs precisely to maintain quality consistency.

Leadership and Mentorship

  • Mentor and provide hands-on guidance to Level 1 and Level 2 installers during installation and prep work.
  • Inspect the work of junior installers and own the department's quality control process before any vehicle is cleared for final review or client delivery.
  • Set day-to-day bay priorities and flag capacity or timeline risks to the department before they affect client commitments.

Quality and Accountability

  • Conduct thorough quality control inspections — of your own work and the team's — before any vehicle is cleared for final review or client delivery.
  • Maintain a clean, organized work environment and adhere to safety best practices at all times.
  • Minimize material waste and maintain usage within acceptable thresholds as tracked via the DAP system.
  • Collaborate with detailing, ceramic coating, and other departments to optimize job flow and timely completion.

Ideal Candidate Profile

This role is for you if you:

  • Take pride in consistently delivering premium installations and setting the standard others follow.
  • Thrive in an environment that requires meticulous attention to detail.
  • Lead by example and find satisfaction in developing the people around you.

  • Have strong communication skills and a proactive mindset.

This role is not for you if you:

  • Struggle with consistency or quality control.
  • Avoid accountability for your work or the work of your team.
  • Require high levels of supervision or micromanagement.
  • Are uncomfortable with physically demanding tasks or prolonged standing.
  • Find it difficult to work collaboratively in a team environment.
